Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments to [email protected], or mail your comments to the Angelaya Strother, Medical Board of California, 2005 Evergreen Street, Suite 1200, Sacramento, CA 95815. Written comments are requested by Friday November 1, 2024. The Federation of State Physician Health Programs is preparing comments. On Thursday October 24, 2024, Dr. Edwin Kim, FSPHP President Elect, offered a statement at their interested parties' session as follows: The FSPHP extended our gratitude for the California board's dedication and hard work in advancing the needs of California's public by forging a pathway for physicians and trainees to safely address health matters through this drafted legislation. We look forward to the day when California can join the other 47 states that have an authorized PHP program that meets the FSPHP PHP Guidelines. PHPs have a 50-year track record of serving the health of the profession and ensuring public safety.
Our comments reaffirmed the elements of this drafted legislation. The proposed regulation alludes to the FSPHP's triad of confidentiality, which ensures that a physician or trainee can navigate health concerns in a private, expertly supported manner while also protecting the needs of the public. This document reflects some thoughtful research of models PHP approaches across the country. Those involved are to be applauded. The proposed regulation addresses the essential need for confidential care for physicians while also strengthening the response to individuals who, through an impairment, may temporarily be unfit for duty. It includes elements of the FSPHP PHP Model that have a proven success record with outcomes.
FSPHP will be submitting written comments on November 1, 2024.
