In a profession where physician well-being directly impacts patient care, collaboration between state physician health programs and state medical boards is crucial. In this joint session, co-hosted by FSPHP and FSMB, representatives from both organizations highlight the role of PHPs and their relationship with state medical boards in supporting physician health and ensuring patient safety. Panelists lead the audience through a physician's journey from early intervention to post-treatment monitoring, illustrating key interactions between PHPs and state medical boards.

In this session the presenters:

• Discuss the ideal State Physician Health Program model, emphasizing confidentiality, record protections, and PHP authorization as an alternative to discipline.
• Describe the relationship and information shared between PHPs and licensing boards in Ohio, TN, MO, and MS, highlighting regulations that incentivize early referral to PHPs.
• Examine how confidentiality and protected records in PHPs lead to early identification and access to care, improving patient care and physician workforce retention.
• Demonstrate the workforce benefits of referral or self-referral to a Physician Health Program.
• Identify barriers to early identification and access to care, recommending actions to overcome them.

Members of FSPHP Board of Directors attend and present at the IDAA Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on July 10 - 14, 2024!

FSPHP was well represented at the International Doctors in Alcoholics Anonymous (IDAA) 2024 Annual Conference in Baltimore last week. FSPHP President Dr. Michael Baron, FSPHP Chief Medical Officer and Past President Dr. Chris Bundy, and FSPHP Western Region Director Dr. Laura Moss attended and presented at the conference.  Each played a pivotal role in representing their PHPs and FSPHP, and their presence and participation reflects their organizations' and FSPHP's commitment to engage with industry organizations and to foster valuable relationships.
